The Charli XCX new single is a peppy, pop track with a fiery accompanying video.
“Boys” at the core is a simple track with a cheeky beat and an adorable Super Mario coin noise. At first listen the song seems like a childishly simple pop song with no real progression or meaningful lyrics, but watching the music video shows a little more of a satirical intention. The music video for “Boys” features an expansive cast of male entertainers that well… entertain. From Joe Jonas licking his milk mustache to Mac DeMarco sexually licking a guitar, the video is jam packed with talent that jabs at how women are sexualized in music videos. The men are sexualized doing the most random things much like women are in almost every mainstream pop music video. It’s a fun time.
