St. Vincent Finally Announces New Album, Releases New Song, "Los Ageless"
This morning St. Vincent officially announced her new album via a Facebook live event where she answered questions in a news conference style. The album is titled MASSEDUCTION and as St. Vincent clarified the album is pronounced mass-seduction, not mass-eduction. Very cheekily she says she "toy[ed] with calling the record Asseducation but it seemed to me that it was much better suited as the title of the sequel." The conference was rather humorous as Vincent talks about the disintegration of groupies in the social age and her soccer history. Other hilarity ensued when someone asked what the inspiration was for the album art and St. Vincent responded: "um the album art is an ass..."

This brings me to the elephant in the room. The cover of MASSEDUCATION is indeed an ass that appeared frequently throughout the video for "New York." Although this may seem crude and sexless, Vincent said that the album is about love and just love. the vibrant pink coloring of the video, press conference and album cover may be used as a symbol of love or to criticize that connection. Regardless I think the album will be much deeper than Vincent leads on as love is such a broad topic in popular music.
Along with this announcement St. Vincent released a new single, "Los Ageless." This song juxtaposes "New York" as the instrumentation is much more upbeat and punk infused than the soft rock ballad. The sound progression also reverses the slow build up in "New York" with a loud intro that dims towards the end. Although rough around the edges at first, "Los Ageless" seems to tap into another more primal aspect of love that "New York" does not. The lyrics stick with the themes that are first presented in "New York" mainly about the issues of understanding love.
Via Beats 1 St. Vincent listed off some of her collaborators which include Jack Antonoff, Kamashi Washington, Jenny Lewis, and her aunt and uncle duo Tuck and Patti. MASSEDUCATION is officially out on October 13th.
